Ayurveda and Yoga gaining the confidence of Allopath fraternity
4/8/2020 10:35:40 PM

E.Rajesh Pathak

Regarding Corona virus I happened to have seen a programme of discussion on the ways of its prevention and also the possibility of its cure. In the Panel of discussion were the doctors of national repute from different systems of medical treatment— that is, one from homeopathy; one with expertise in the cure of infection borne diseases in allopath; other being from medicine department. And the last but not the least was none other than the India’s prominent heart specialist, Padamshri Dr Naresh Trehan, the CMD of Medanta hospital. They all respectively gave their opinions on the matter concerned. In the meantime Baba Ramdev of Patanjali was invited in the discussion through video conferencing. Putting his view on dealing with the challenge of Corona virus, he laid the emphasis on increasing the immunity of the body. The most simple way of which, according to him, is doing the three kinds of Pranayama, that is—bhastrika, kapalbhati and anuloma-viloma. He further added to advise that the boiled and filtered solution of Giloy, haldi[turmeric], tulsi[basil], gud[jaggery] and kali-mirch[black-pepper] be consumed, too. After staying 5-6 minutes he left the screen. Discussion went on for more 15-20 minutes, and then anchor invited everybody’s brief comment in gist to deal with the situation. One by one everybody put his views in one to two lines. But what Dr Trehan said was unprecedented, remarkable in the ethics of medical-world. He unequivocally said-‘Do anything out of whatever is told here, but along with that must do that what Baba Ramdev told.’ Means, he gave priority to performing yoga and adopting Ayurveda based medicines and homely herbs.
What is notable here is that till 15-20 years back we refused to rely— in the views of many to the extent of contempt— on our own traditional knowledge concerning wellness of health. I still remember that few years back I had to go to a dentist for the treatment of teeth. Advising me for the root-canal therapy, he asked as to which toothpaste I used. As I mentioned the name of an ayurvedic toothpaste, he instantly replied, ‘throw it away from the window of bathroom.’ In what is called all strictness he prescribed for me the toothpaste of popular brand with allopathic based inorganic contents. Ironically, the things have changed today. In order to remain stayed in the market as before even the biggest of the brands are made to bring the herbal brands, assuring the customers that it is also composed of clove, basil and such other ayurvedic contents. Last days in the newspaper I got to read the remedy of stomach pain and gastric trouble—‘In all over the day take at least 2 litres water. Do yoga and light exercise, and take a walk for 10-15 minutes after the meal. Consume black pepper; drink buttermilk, adding into it black salt and celeries. Boil the leaves of mint in water, and consume the solution. After the lunch take the lemon juice with water; or papaya.’ Make not the mistake of assuming that this being advised by some ayurvedic doctor. This was advised by none other than the allopathic doctor, S.K Mundra, HOD internal medicine, Saroj Super-speciality Hospital, New Delhi.
This must be said that in this today’s changed scenario why medical world should not think over what, in 2015 on the occasion of Yog-diwas, the head of Bihar school of Yog, his highness Swami Niranjananand Saraswati, said on NDTV channel, laying stress on the importance of maintaining balance among different medical systems- ‘Diagnosis from allopath; medicines and eating habits according to Ayurveda; and then go in for Yogic exercises —this together will offer us healthy and disease-free life.’
