J&K records fourth death due to COVID-19

Jammu and Kashmir reported its fourth COVID-19 death after a woman in Udhampur district in Jammu died from the infection Wednesday night.


The 60-year-old woman was brought to government medical college in the morning due to chest pain. The family of the woman said she had history of chronic arthritis.




She was initially taken to a local hospital by her family and was then referred to GMC Jammu. She died when her samples were being collected for testing. The results, which came after her death, confirmed she was COVID-19 positive.



The family has been told to follow the protocol for the cremation of her body.

This is the first death in Jammu region. The first was a 65-year-old man from Hyderpora in Srinagar. He had participated in the Nizamuddin event. Two other men who died were from Baramulla and Bandipora.

The death of the woman has come hours after Jammu and Kashmir witnessed 33 positive cases within a span of 24 hours. Three are from Jammu and the rest from Kashmir. The fresh cases were reported after the results of 100 samples taken from patients from Srinagar, south Kashmir’s Pulwama, Kulgam districts, and Baramulla and Bandipora in the north were received.

According to reports, the cases from Bandipora have a history of contact with previous positive cases and those from Srinagar have a travel history to an African country, According to the government media bulletin, a total of 40,336 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance.


According to this, 8,494 are in-home quarantine, 130 in hospital isolation, 518 in hospital quarantine and 23,364 at in-home surveillance.

The bulletin said 7,830 people have completed 28 days of surveillance.
