| NC to launch agitation if power & water crises not resolved | | | Early Times Reporter R.S.Pura | July 20 MLC Devender Singh Rana said National Conference is committed to uphold the sanctity of all the religions in the state. Addressing a public meeting here today he cautioned the people to be beware of the divisive forces which want to create fissures in the secular fabric of the state. He said PDP-Congress coalition was a coalition bereft of any ideological cohesion and was only a coalition for opportunism. He said the erstwhile coalition government which was marred by corruption and malpractices created confusion and chaos in the state putting at stake the basic tenants of the state of Jammu & Kashmir. He said people must realize that National Conference has always stood for secularism and equitable distribution of resources to all the regions of the state and respected the regional, religious, ethnic and linguistic diversity of the state and always ensured that people from different background live in peace and harmony in the state and shall remain committed to the same principle. Rana said the secular credentials of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah are well established and well known and both need no certificate in this regard from anybody least of all the right wing parties. He cautioned the state government that if immediate steps are not taken to address the problems of power and water scarcity in Jammu region the National Conference will be forced to launch an agitation against the government for the welfare of the people of Jammu region. Former Minister and Chairman SC/ BC Cell of National Conference Ram Paul said the coalition government brought Roshni Act to benefit the land grabbers and deprived the common masses of the benefits envisaged in the Roshni Scheme introduced by the National Conference government. He said the rampant corruption and nepotism that the coalition government indulged in resulted in misery and misfortune for the people of the state. Ramesh Motan, the National Conference candidate from R.S. Pura said the BJP and the BSP are playing divisive politics to create a wedge among the people of the region by raising slogans based on religion and caste. He said the people can see through the mischievous designs of such political parties and shall give a befitting reply to them in the coming elections.
