| Governor for preservation of rich vernacular architecture | | | Early Times Reporter

Stressing the need for enactment of a legal framework to preserve heritage, Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra said it was the duty of all to maintain the rich vernacular architectures.
Mr Vohra, during a meeting where he was briefed about the rich heritage treasure of Jammu and Kashmir, indicated the urgency for the enactment of a legal framework to preserve it.
He said the rich vernacular architecture has to be preserved for future generations as also to attract tourists from across the globe.
The governor stressed the need to identify heritage monuments and other old buildings.
He stressed the need for an effective time bound steps for the conservation and preservation of their surroundings.
He called for formulation of a Master Plan and indicated that implementation of the conservation programme must be carried out within a specified time frame.
Vohra sought the preparation of a calendar of all such activities which should be monitored on a fortnightly basis.
Suggesting the creation of a monumental corridor for incoming tourists with the facilities of guides and planned package tours, he called for creating awareness among the people about the upkeep of the buildings having historical value. |
