| 2 militants killed in night long encounter | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | July 21 Army and special operation group of Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have killed two militants in a night long encounter at Nagbal area of Ganderbal, on Srinagar-Baltal road, this morning. Sources said that militants last night threw a hand grenade from a hill-top on CRPF personnel who were on routine Yatra duty at Nagbal. However no jawan was reported to have been injured. The CRPF personnel in retaliation fired several shots towards the hill-lock but the militants did not respond and flee from the spot. The Yatra vehicles were stopped for about two hours fearing attack on Yatra. Meanwhile, troops of 5 RR and Special operation group of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a house to house search operation and sealed the whole area but could not trace the militants till late last night following which the operation was suspended. During the wee hours today, militants again fired on the troops from nearby forests triggering gun-fight. Two militants were gunned down in the encounter, officials said. Superintendent of Police Ganderbal Abdul Razaq Khan told NAK that two militants have been killed so for and the search operation was going on. He identified slain militants as Abid Ahmad Khan son of Mukhtiyar Ahmad Khan and Sjood Ahmad Shah son of Assan Shah both residents of Rehpora Sopore. Two Ak-47 riffles and ammunition has been recovered from the possession of the slain militants. It was not immediately ascertained that to which militant out-fit the killed militants belong to, he said. Yesterday one army major and a Hawaldar of Jammu and Kashmir police were killed and three others injured in a brief encounter in Rajouri and two persons including a tourist were killed and four others injured in a grenade blast at Gulmarg on Sunday. |
