| ‘Revenue Department misleading public’ | | FONL demands evaluation of rates of government land | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 21 The Forum of Lease Holders/Occupants of Nazool/ Govt Land (FONL) has condemned the attempts being made by the revenue department to confuse and mislead the public mind, particularly the aggrieved parties, by creating an impression that the government has substantially reduced the rates to be charged from the occupants of land under the J&K state lands (Vesting of ownership rights to the occupants) Act 2001. The Forum in a meeting held today with Inderjeet Khajuria in chair maintained that their fight has been against the exorbitant evaluation of rates of government lands under occupation of different categories of authorized allottes and lease holders and not for seeking any concession or discount on the arbitrary and exorbitant fixed rates ranging from Rs. 40 lakhs to Rs 1.5 crore per kanal. Terming the reports appearing in a section of press today, obviously based on the government press release, the FONL said the government wants to create an impression that a fresh circular gives substantial concession to the occupants of the government land. The Forum alleged that a trick is played by the concerned by giving information about the old notification issued by the revenue department as back as on May 30 last which has already been rejected by the Forum. The Forum has demanded that the authorized lease holders, holding possession of government lands for the last 50 to 80 years, be charged the same rate as was charged from the unauthorized occupants and illegal encroachers in 25 colonies which were regularized by the government in 2005. The unauthorized occupants of these colonies were charged only the development cost ranging from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. One lakh per kanal, the Forum said. The meeting, among others was, attended by S S Pathania, President, S.Gajan Singh, general secretary, Iqbal Khullar secretary, Somnath Sharma vice president, M L Sharma treasurer and Ajay Bakshi joint secretary. |
