Manmohan Singh can add weight to his career if he emulates Azad

Jammu | July 21
For the July 22 one-day test on the floor of the Lok Sabah the key players in the Congress-led UPA Government and the opposition are either engaged in match fixing or in borrowing support for one side or the other.Since there is neither any age nor any caste bar for the players the two teams are flexing their muscles for wooing the support of even those MPS who were never heard nor had participated in the debates in the Lok Sabha. These very inconsequential MPs are in great demand. Those very MPS who could never get an audience with the Prime Minister or the members of the union cabinet are being approached by ministers and senior bureaucrats. These very fence sitters keep the two sides guessing. In the morning they are with the UPA Government in the evening they are with the opposition. In fact the left has been in the forefront of those determined to defeat the UPA Government on the floor of the House.Interestingly, the BJP,which has announced to oppose the Prime Minister's motion on the floor of the House, has been watching the tussle betweeen the Prime Minister's team and the one led by Karat and his vice captain.
The one party that has been rattled by this tussle is the Samajwadi party which has suffered not only a split but its close associates, including Ajit Sngh, have parted company. Both the sides claim they will win.Neither of the two teams is willing to accept the defeat. They want to play and not leave the field without completing their bowling and batting session. There are MPS wo want the one-day tie to be of 20-20 overs but there are others who are keen to make it a 50-over game so that each player got the chance to bat and then complete the bolwing spells.Since the Prime Minister has announced that he would go in for trial of strength on July 22 it cannot not be a test match of five-days.It is part of parliamentary democracy that even those MPS wo are in jails on charge of one crime or the other are allowed to play in the one-day test.A large number of top players in cricket, hockey, and ace athletes had to be debarred from playing after they failed the dope test. There is no need for subjecting MPs to the dope test.It is free for all when even the criminals among the MPS are entitled to vote.
This indictes that those keen to retain power have stooped so low that they have started promising moon to the MPs.And those MPs who had not the authority or face to demand a pence were seen demaning a pound of flesh from the UPA Government.Lo and behold:the BSP supremo,Mayawati is being accusd of having opened the strings of her purse for paying phenomenal prices to MPs for seeking their support to the opposition.Mayawati, who has 17 members in the Lok Sabha,is being praised by the entire opposition and some of the opposition MPs have started describing her as the future Prime Minister. She is said to have caused split in the Samajwadi party led by Mulayam Singh Yadav who has 39 MPS.The Congress leadership feels jittery after some of the Samajwadi Party MPs have indicated that they may vote against the motion..The trial of strength has assumed the shape of war and if you blame either the Congress or the opposition for having adopted unfair practices they do not hesitate saying "everything is fair in love and war."
And those millions of people who feel sick over the below the belt hitting tactics do appreciate former Kashmir Chief Minister,Ghulam Nabi Azad, for having preferred relinquishing his power to horse trading. He is on record to have said he did not want to resort to unfair practices, including horse trading, for retaining power. He said he found it better to quit and win back power with the support of people. And had he resorted to unfair means he could have been still the Chief Minister. He opted for a dignified course which is enviable for any honest political leader.Manmohan Singh needs to emulate Azad. This can enlarge his clean political image.
