| PM meets Speaker Somnath Chatterjee | | | New Delhi | July 24
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited the Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee early Thursday morning at his residence.
Chatterjee had been expelled by the CPM on Wednesday after he refused to step down from the Speaker’s post, following Left's withdrawal of support to the government.
What discussion took place between the two is not yet known, but the Prime Minister, indeed almost the entire UPA, has been keen that he stays on as the Speaker. In fact, most of them have been vocal about his fairness in conducting the tension filled two-day session called to conduct the trust vote. |
