| Court granted interim bail to ZEO Rajouri, caught red-handed by VOJ | | |
Jammu, September, 06:- Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu Mr. JR Kotwal today granted interim bail to Shaheen Akhtar, ZEO Rajouri, who was caught red-handed by the team of Vigilance Organization yesterday while accepting Rs 6000/- as bribe from a Contractor.
Today Inspector VOJ has produced Mrs. Shaheen Akhtar, ZEO Rajouri in custody and sought five days remand to VOJ custody. At the same time bail application was moved on behalf of accused; the Court clubbed both the matters and perused the CD File and heard both the sides. It is alleged that accused was caught red-handed in a trap laid by VOJ on September 5, 2006, when she in her office at Rajouri demanded and accepted Rs 6000/- as illegal gratification from complainant Mohd Hussain contractor. SPO appearing for the Vigilance Organization has vehemently contested the bail application on the ground that at this stage if the accused released on bail, she would temper the evidence and investigation would be adversely affected. Court said after having perused the record and taking into account the steps in investigation yet to be taken and the fact that the accused is woman, Court is of the well considered view that the accused should be released on bail instead of remanding her to custody. However, to meet the apprehension expressed by the SPO, she is granted ad-interim bail. She be released after she furnishes personal bond along with a surety in the amount of Rs 10,000 with the direction that she shall cooperate with the investigation as and when required by the Investigating Officer and shall appear before the Court on all the dates of hearing in this application.
