Curfew continues today, shutdown extended till Sunday

Despite rising passions following suicide of Kuldip Kumar, the day passed off peacefully with no reports of any major demonstration or vandalism even as curfew remained imposed in the town.
The authorities relaxed curfew for in the evening during which hundreds of people rushed to the market to make essential purchases as curfew will remain imposed on Friday also. The Deputy Commissioner Jammu Mandeep Bhandari said that curfew will remained imposed in Jammu on Friday and relaxation can be reviewed according to the emerging situation.
Meanwhile, intensifying round two of the ongoing agitation on the Amarnath land transfer issue Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti on Thursday extended bandh call till July 27 and also demanded registration of FIR against National Conference Chief Omar Abdullah.
Pointing accusing fingers towards him leaders of the sangarsh samiti held him responsible for the death of an activist of the sangarsh samiti and directed him and other Kashmiri politicians to pack their bags and quit Jammu.
Division Commissioner of Jammu Sudhanshu Pandey had earlier reviewed the security situation in the region and later ordered imposition of curfew in all areas falling under Jammu municipal corporation.
Inspector general of Police Jammu range K Rajendra said," the district administration imposed curfew to prevent mobilisation of large number of people in view of the tense situation in Jammu and several adjoining areas. Curfew was also imposed in Bisnah, RS Pura, Arnia , senior police officer said.
A spokesman for the District Magistrate said that the curfew will remain imposed in the areas including include Janipur, Bakshi Nagar, Domana, Nagrota, Gangyal, Pacca Danga, Satwari, Trikute Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Bagh-i-Bahu, Chhani Himmat, Peer Mitha, Bus Stand, Nowabad, City, Arnia, Meeran Sahib, Bishnah and R. S. Pura.
However, this order shall not apply to the Uniform personal performing law and order duties, employees of the Essential Services Departments viz. Electricity, PHE, Health (Government Hospitals/ Medical Colleges), JKSRTC and Municipal Corporation, Jammu and also on funeral processions subject to frisking. The Identity cards issued by the departments, concerned, railway tickets, air tickets, print media and electronic media identity cards shall be treated as Curfew passes.
In exceptional cases where the nearest SHO of the Police Post, Commander of BSF outpost/ post commander of the Army is satisfied that it is essential for any person or persons to be allowed to move during curfew hours to seek urgent medical aid or undertake thrashing operations or for carrying operations or plantation of seedling during the curfew hours, it may permit such person(s) by issuing them curfew passes.
