Srinagar | July 24
The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) today launched online hotel booking for convenience of the tourists at a function held at SKICC. With the launch of this innovative facility the Corporation has become the first public sector organization in the country to offer online services to the tourists. Besides facilitating tourists and customers in online booking through credit cards, the step would also help promote new tourist attractions rapidly and broadly in tune with the fast changing conditions and requirements in contrast to conventional approach of marketing.
Secretary Tourism, Mr. Naeem Akhter was the chief guest.
Representatives of tourism, travel and trade were present on the occasion.
After launching the website www.jktdc.co.in the Secretary Tourism urged the need to be innovative in the fast developing information technology world to keep pace with the competition in the tourism world. He called for upgrading and modernizing the tourism infrastructure without wasting any time adding that Jammu and Kashmir still lags behind its real potential.
However, he appreciated the JKTDC for launching the online booking and said there was urgent need to complete the modernization of the SKICC complex expeditiously. He said SKICC has been made fully air-conditioned and the Acoustics (sound system) work on the convention hall is expected to be completed within two months.
Stressing the need to provide inter connectivity between various halls of the convention complex, Mr. Naeem said that the convention hall of the SKICC shall soon have translation and interpretation facility in six languages. With these facilities, the hall in the complex could be used by about 2000 participants at a time, he added.
The Managing Director JKTDC on this occasion gave a brief resume about the activities of the Corporation and said that it provides accommodation, catering, package tours, besides developing tourism infrastructure and new project implementation. He said adoption of e-commerce technology, using websites, e-mail and online communication system in the corporation would expand limits with customers and increase business.
The MD informed that operation of the online booking system would cover eight main locations including Jammu, Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Cheshmashahi, Hotel Heemal, Patnitop and Katra.
