Unidentified persons hurled a grenade on a Jammu-bound bus at the bus stand located in the periphery of Lal Chowk at around noon. The grenade was hurled when the group of labourers from other states were boarding a bus to Jammu on way to their native places. The injured were rushed to the nearby Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital, off which six are said to be in a critical condition. Initial reports suggested that the blast was targeted at the civilians, as no security personnel has been injured. Most of the people injured are not just locals but also Amarnath pilgrims. Two of the deceased have been identified as Khushboo and Adil, children of Mohammad Afroze, the sources said, adding that Afroze fell unconscious at the hospital when he came to know about the death of his two children. One of the deceased is a woman whose identity is yet to be ascertained. The DIG of Jammu and Kashmir confirmed the casualties so far and said that the police had prior information of the blast. He said, "We did have prior details of a possible blast, following which we tightened the security. We are now investigating into the case and have increased the security force in vital parts of the city." Following the blast, the Jammu and Kashmir police cordoned off the area.
