| PDP sabotaged development process: Azad | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 25 Former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that People's Democratic Party had sabotaged the development process in Jammu and Kashmir, adding that the role of the PDP during the past two and a half years in coalition government, was worst than that of opposition. Azad was addressing large public meetings at Banihal, Ramsu and Ramban today. He said despite being a coalition partner in the government, the PDP created hindrances for him at every point of time which resulted in hampering of the infrastructure development and implementation of people oriented welfare schemes in the state. The former Chief Minister, who was given a tumultuous welcome by thousands of people on reaching Banihal, Ramsu and Ramban with all the towns decorated with welcome arches, said that despite politicking by the PDP, he was able to register unprecedented development in all sectors which surpassed all the achievements of the previous governments in past 60 years. He said be it setting up of additional university campuses, opening up of degree colleges, setting up and upgrading schools, construction of hospitals or execution of drinking water and power supply schemes, there was record development registered, the results of which are visible on ground across the state. Saying that road connectivity was key to rapid socio-economic development and prosperity, Mr. Azad said that during past two and a half years of his government, Rs. 2000 crore were earmarked for construction of roads. He said against the allocation of Rs. 200 crore for road sector during 2005-06, the amount was increased to Rs. 350 crore during 2006-07. He said during this fiscal, a whopping sum of Rs. 1350 crore is being spent for road connectivity. Referring to execution of projects under double and triple shift system, the senior Congress leader said that this enabled in completion of several projects of high public importance within a fixed time frame. He said had his government been allowed to complete its full term, he would have completed scores of other projects in health, education, R&B, power, public health engineering and other critical sectors to facilitate the people. He said any slowing down of pace of work on ongoing projects would be squarely the responsibility of the PDP. |
