Jammu | July 25

Strongly condemning the grenade attack on innocent people including Swami Amarnath pilgrims at Batmaloo in Srinagar yesterday, the former Union Minister and a senior BJP leader, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has questioned the sincerity of Omar Abdullah of the National Conference, more so, of those Congress and others who had been misleading the countrymen that pilgrims and others were fully protected in Kashmir.
Omar Abdullah should explain that what was this at Batmaloo as he had blared lies in the Lok Sabha on July 22, while speaking on trust vote for Congress led UPA government in a mysterious situation of horse trading by the men supporting the government at New Delhi, he added and asserted that this was not the first time when the pilgrims were targeted. The fact remains that this has been happening there for many years in the past too and the fanatics and fundamentalists had been playing this dirty game for a long time. He said that even hundreds of religious places and temples in the valley were damaged during the past years. All this had led to the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits and other minorities from the valley of Kashmir.’ It is matter of shame that person like Omar Abdullah indulged in voicing lies in the Indian Parliament itself’, Prof Gupta added.
The BJP leader said that all the more deplorable was that while Omar was trying to mislead the highest democratic body of the country viz the Parliament, the Congress lady, Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was patting this small Abdullah without taking into account that what kind of venom the person was spitting. Ignoring the interest of the country and the sentiments of the nationalists, it appeared that both these top Congress brass were feeling happy just because he was hurling abuses against the NDA with which he had enjoyed power for years. And more so, these Congressmen were finding happiness because the two votes of the National Conference would help in bringing out the UPA government from the ICU, he remarked.
Prof. Gupta recalled that like this small Abdullah, the big Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah in 1953 started spitting venom against India and went to an extent of even defying Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru and hurled insults in July 1953 against Molana Abu Kalam Azad when the latter visited Srinagar. Only after this the patriot like late Raffi Ahmed Qidwai had taken a serious note of the approach and utterances of the Sheikh and managed not only the exit of Abdullah from power in Kashmir but also was put behind the bars after which the NC leader remained in bewilderedness for 22 long years.
But it is a matter of shame that his grandson was spreading all sorts of canards and the Congress leadership ignoring all the national interests including the sentiments of crores of Hindus over the Shrine Board land issue, were having no feelings but were looking for two votes to stick to chairs of power, he observed.
Prof. Gupta welcomed the resignation of former MLC and President of the J&K Ex-services League, Major General G.S. Jamwal from the National Conference over the statement of Omar Abdullah in the Parliament and hoped that others having grace would also follow the suit.
He alleged that many in Congress as also in the NC-PDP are facilitators for regional and other injustices and the time is not very far off that they would have to be answerable to the masses for gross discrimination and high-handedness being inflicted to the nationalists.
