| Karra ridicules tirade by some communal elements against Kashmiris | | | Early Times Reporter Baramulla | July 27 Senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Tariq Hameed Karra has said the confidence building process should not become a victim of hawkish nuances and along with opening more cross-LoC routes, truck services should now be made operational on Srinagar-Muzafarabad and Poonch-Rawalakote roads as the necessary infrastructure is in place for the same. Addressing a day-long convention of the PDP workers at Tragpora, Rafiabad today, Karra said, the people of Jammu and Kashmir were forced to live in isolation for the past 60 years because of the circumstances that were not of their creation. "Now the time has come when the people of the State must be allowed to move around freely in the region carrying along with them their produce and intellectual resources," he said and added that while the reopening of Srinagar-Muzafarabad and Poonch-Rawalakote roads marked the beginning of that process, operationalization of cross-LoC truck service would add a substantial element to it. He also called for making the process of cross-LoC of travel hassle-free as thousands of such applications are pending clearance with the concerned departments. Strongly condemning the killing of innocents in serial blasts at Ahmedabad and Bangalore, Karra, however, cautioned against targeting Kashmiris in the aftermath of these gruesome incidents. He said there are reports that in Bangalore several Kashmiri businessmen and students were either allegedly detained by the police or harassed after the blasts. "I hope the investigating agencies would not jump to the conclusion and label any innocent Kashmiri outside as the culprits even before the initial investigations," he said and added that in the last also several Kashmiri students and businessmen targeted in similar situations proved innocent after investigations. "But the damage was already done to their careers and reputation," he said. Ridiculing the tirade launched by some communal elements against the Kashmiris in Jammu, Karra said that some vested interests are sponsoring similar irresponsible statements against the Bihari laborers in the Kashmir valley. "The credentials of the persons who are issuing such reckless statements should be verified as there are reports that the vested interests who want the violence to continue are promoting such elements," he said and added that the law enforcing authorities must investigate the credentials of such elements. Addressing the convention senior PDP leader Mohammad Dillawar Mir said the three years of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led coalition Government in the State are acknowledged as a golden era in the recent history, as Jammu and Kashmir witnessed changes of great significance not only on the political but the developmental front as well during that period. Mir also demanded extension of Rs 71000 crore agriculture loan waiver scheme to the horticulture and allied sectors in the hilly states including Jammu and Kashmir, whose economy is largely dependent on the agriculture sector. PDP leader Sayed Basharat Bukhari also addressed the convention. |
