| ‘Delay in Afzal Guru's hanging emboldened terrorists' | | | New Delhi | July 27
Linking the delay in hanging Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru to the serial bomb blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad, a prominent anti-terrorist front on Sunday said intelligence agencies should be out of the ambit of the Home Ministry for "neutrality and effectiveness".
"All these terror attacks are a result of the political indecision that has stopped the hanging of Afzal Guru. They (terrorists) are emboldened by the fact that Afzal has not been hanged even after being convicted," All India Anti-Terrorist Front Secretary M S Bitta said.
Demanding that intelligence agencies like IB and RAW along with CBI should be taken out of control of the Home Ministry to maintain their "neutrality" he said, "These agencies should be under the control of the President, the armed forces or the Chief Justice of India.
"We have already seen what the Home Ministry has done while blasts have taken place all over the country," he said.
Alleging that these agencies are now being used for political purposes, Bitta said "this has weakened the efficiency of both IB and RAW".
Calling for a strong "political will" to counter the menace, he said political parties need to sort out their differences and work for the security of the common people.
"The main issue here right now is not the nuclear deal but issue of the people's safety," he said. |
