| Politicians play blame game for mustering voters support | | | Gareeb Dass Jammu | July 27 It is sheer blame game exercise having been initiated by leaders of various mainstream political parties in Jammu and Kashmir.During the last three weeks leaders of one party blame other leaders for the ongoing turmoil in Jammu.Despite demarcation between the separatists and the mainstream political leaders the former blame the latter for all the political ills in the state without realising who fanned the flames over the land diversion controversy. The mainstream political leaders blame one another for having set Kashmir on fire first and then creating problems in the Jammu region where people had no other alternative but to register their anger on the city roads. Those belonging to the National Conference, the PDP and the Congress have found it easy to hold responsible fundamentalist and communalists for having triggered violence here and in Kashmir. For these fundamentalists, especially those belonging to the saffron brigade, the recent statement of the National Conference President,Omar Abdullah,on the floor of the Lok Sabha has come handy for berating the National Conference leadership.Even leaders belonging to various Kashmiri Pandit organisations have gone a step further by accusing Omar Abdullah of trying to take the state back to the days of the Muslim Conference. Here it may be mentioned that the National Conference is the baby of the Muslim Conference in 1938 when Sheikh Abdullah formed the National Conference to keep its doors open for non-Muslims By alleging that Omar had shown his "true colours" Pandit organisations have found in Omar's statement "clear communal overtones." National Conference leaders have rected sharply by blaming BJP leaders for exploiting the situation for vote bank politics. They have reacted without giving a thought to the role the NC leaders played by opposing diversion of land to the Shrine Board. In fact when the PDP initiated its plan to force the Government to withdraw the order the NC leadership, wittingly or unwittingly, supported and endorsed the PDP stand on the land controversy. Was it not the vote bank politics ?And from the Congress side former Chief Minister,Ghulam Nabi Azad has blamed the vested interests, without identifying them, for having created unnecessary controversy over a minor issue just to further their petty political interest.Without naming the organisations he has accused political parties of playing with the emotions of people. For him it is difficult to name the PDP or the NC because he has to keep the option open in case need emerged for forming a coalition Government in the state after the election. Surprisingly, the PDP and the NC leaders do not hesitate identifying leaders of the saffron brigade while blaming them for having incited people in Jammu to violence against the land revocation order when they dare not speak against the separatists. The reason seems that whatever political mileage the two think they have gained in Kashmir do not want to fritter away by holding the separatists responsible for violence in Kashmir. One thing seems to be certain. Both the NC and the PDP have decided to measure swords against each other during the ensuing election in the Kshmir valley. The NC leadership seems to be confident on winning at least five seats in Jammu which would give it the upper hand over the PDP.To make things hot for the NC and the PDP the saffron brigade has launched a forceful tirade against the two while clamouring over what they call continued discrimination of the Jammu region. In order to give teeth to their campaign against the NC and PDP besides the congress the leaders belonging to the BJP,VHP,Shiv Sena and others have started reviving their demand for statehood status for Jammu. The blame game play is likely to become more vigorous with the announcement of the poll schedule. |
