| Where is all electricity going? | | | Early Times Reporte Jammu | July 27
If not half, at least 40 per cent of bulbs fed of snagging Gladni Grid station are off for last four days. Isn’t saving some electricity? But where is this electricity going? With ongoing protests and demonstrations at least 40 per cent of the total electricity consumption, any rough estimate would suggest, is being saved. The major consumers of electricity –business establishment and offices –are completely shut for last four days but the authorities are still resorting to the same old cruel schedule of power supply. Jammu and its adjoining areas are facing daily power curtailment of 12 to 15 hours. Worse, in some areas the blackouts are going even upto 20 hours. Ironically, the scheduled cuts are not being maintained honestly. For example, there is a scheduled cut between 4 PM to 6 PM. The power will spark at 4 PM sharp and supply will continue till 4:45 PM. Then again will follow the unscheduled cut from 4:45 PM to 5:30 PM when power returns for half an hour to follow the next scheduled cut from 6 PM onwards. Consumers have been told that the poor power supply is due to acute shortage –more requirements and less availability. But Jammu being shut for last four days the availability should have been surplus but authorities are following a usual cold shoulder to the public woes. |
