Jammu | July 27
For over a decade Kashmir Valley, particularly the Srinagar City, enjoyed the dubious distinction of being known as ‘Shut Down’ city of the country for recurring protests and demonstrations leaving little for the routine life. However, for a month now Jammu appears to have donned this feature as a consolidated sentiments is giving way to the pent up anger by way of sustained protests, demonstrations and shut downs –the remarkable feature of this entire scenario is that this is a voluntary action and not under pressure.
Showing up the true sense of agitation, ever since the Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti called for a indefinite shutdown in June 30, the people of Jammu are keeping shut whenever the need aroused. Take example of this evening. After four days of shut down curfew was lifted from Southern areas of City particularly Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar and Chhani Himmat etc. This was an apt opportunity for the traders to open their shops and make brisk sales. But they did not do so. They preferred to keep shut and be a part of agitation.
The Rapid Action Force, regarded as a technical trained army to handle such situations, too has admitted the agitator are highly motivated and it is not possible to quell the protests. Jawans of Rapid Action Force deployed across sensitive places in Jammu have come to one conclusion-- activists of Amarnath yatra sangarsh samiti are determined and have great stamina to fight for their cause.
Deployed in Parade ground area these jawans in private admitted to various media persons covering the violent clashes on Sunday that they have not seen such an energetic mob in recent times.
A senior jawan of RAF said, "we have been visiting various places and tackling agitations but the ongoing agitation in Jammu and angry crowd has taught them few more lessons. "The RAF jawan said if an activist is committed to the cause and is highly motivated no police force can deal with the situation on the ground.
We are experiencing same motivation and are astonished to find high energy levels of agitating youth in Jammu.
The RAF jawan said recently we were deployed in Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan and were stationed in riot prone Meerut but dealing with volatile situation in Jammu is totally different.
He said the walled city area gives advantge to rioters as they climb rooftops and pelt stones .Secondly, he said the densely populated area do not provide them enough liberty to charge as they often lost track of routes.
