A live bomb was today found in a garbage can in Amraiwadi area of the blast-hit city even as the toll from the serial explosions rose to 38. The bomb disposal squad was called to defuse the bomb, police sources said. As many as 162 people have been injured in yesterday's blasts creating panic across the state. Chief Minister Narendra Modi has called a special cabinet meeting in Gandhinagar to discuss the security situation in the state. Sixteen serial blasts had rocked the city last evening in a span of 60 to 70 minutes. The investigations of the blasts has been handed over to city crime branch and special teams have been formed to probe the case. The city crime branch has conducted overnight raids in different parts of the city and has detained some persons. "Our teams conducted search operations at various places yesterday night and detained number of persons. I cannot provide the exact figure as many teams were involved in the operations and we are yet to consolidate the figures," City Crime Branch chief Ashish Bhatia told news agencies. City police is in touch with Navi Mumbai police regarding the e-mail sent to television channels threatening more blasts across the country. Police said primarily they have found that ammonium nitrate was used as explosive material in the bombs. LPG cylinders were also used to increase the impact of the blast at the Civil Hospital. Elaborate security arrangements have been made in sensitive areas of the city and a large number of police force including SRP and RAF were called in, police said. Despite the terror strike, the spirit of the city residents was high and many youths were seen playing cricket as usual on the city's university ground. Traffic was also normal on Sunday morning. The shortage of blood in hospitals led to many people come out to donate blood at Vadilal Sarabhai, Civil and L G hospitals. Volunteers have turned out in large numbers since yesterday night to help out in dealing with the emergency situation. The state Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Narendra Modi has started a meeting in Gandhinagar to review the situation, government sources said. Modi had last night appealed to the people to maintain peace and tranquillity and said Gujarat will track down the terrorists and bring them to justice. The injured were admitted in several hospitals including Vadilal Sarabhai Hospital, Civil Hospital and LG Hospital. The blasts occurred at Maninagar, L G hospital, Isanpur, Narol circle, Bapunagar, Hatkeshwar, Sarangpur bridge, Sarkhej, Odhav, Sardar Patel market, Civil Hospital, Juhapura, Ambur tower building, Raipur and Govindbadi. Two of the most busy hospitals of the city Civil Hospital and L G Hospital were also not spared by the terrorist in yesterday's blasts. |
