| Broken tourism sector could be revived by encouraging golf tourism: Azad | | Governor, CM, prominent golfers participate in GK invitational golf tournament 2006 | | SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 07 - “Even thought series of grenade attacks on tourists has adversely affected large rush of tourists to Kashmir valley, still there is a high hope that with the full encouragement of tourist activities in the valley and full-fledged campaign to be launched for wooing the tourists again, coming two months will witness sharp increase in tourist arrivals”, said Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad while talking to media persons on the occasion of commencement of GK invitational golf tournament 2006 at picturesque Royal Springs Golf Course here this morning. Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd) S. K. Sinha inaugurated the tournament. Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd) S. K. Sinha, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, MPs and prominent golfers are participating in the tournament. Chief Minister while appreciating the beauty and establishment of Royal Springs Golf Course said that in present world scenario where golf tourism has become the central point for attracting rich tourism, corporate heads, opinion makers, parliamentarians and those who matter inn the society, shall be able to convey to the world about the beauty of Kashmir. He said that livelihood of lakhs of families of Jammu and Kashmir is dependent on tourism and our high potential, tourist destinations, God-gifted highland pastures, mighty rivers, majestic snow-capped mountains, breathtaking scenic spots and salubrious climate are required to be showcased to the world. Mr. Azad said that these parliamentarians who have come today to participate in the tournament shall definitely convey to the people of their areas that situation of Kashmir is not so bad as explosion of few grenades have created wrong impression and fear in the minds of tourists. He said these stray incidents have become a usual phenomenon throughout the world. He said bombs explode in USA, London and other parts of the world but tourism has never been allowed to suffer on this count. On this occasion, Mr. Jagdish Tytler along with other Members of Parliament while speaking to media said that they will play a significant role in conveying to the people of rest of the country to visit Jammu and Kashmir as it is the world-class tourist destination and real heaven on earth. Mr. Tytler appreciated Mr. Azad for his tireless endeavours for bringing prosperity to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that state government’s efforts to encourage golf tourism is for the interest of people of Jammu and Kashmir because this is the real route through which lakhs of tourists shall come to the state. He hoped that similar golf events will be organized repeatedly and attractive golf courses established in various parts of the state. He hoped that in next two months more and more tourists will again start coming to the valley so that the broken tourist industry in the state is brought back on the rails. |
