| Journalist Guild up in arms | | ‘Hold Vohra responsible for Jammu turmoil’ | | Early Times Reporte Jammu | July 28 The executive body members of the Journalists Guild (Jammu) today held a meeting and expressed serious concern over the insensitive and tough posture being adopted by the State Administration while tackling the prevailing situation in Jammu in the aftermath of revocation of allotment order of land to SASB. Devender Padha, President of the Guild, while holding Governor N N Vohra responsible for the entire ruckus, said that he failed to determine the popular sentiments of the Jammuties which led to mass protests and violent demonstrations all around. He also criticized Vohra for repeatedly referring Kuldeep Verma’s sacrifice as suicide in his public appeal, which was issued to newspapers through Information Department. The meeting also condemned in one voice the role being played by the police against the peacefully protesting people and media persons while carrying out their professional assignments. The members also brought to the fore that several of them were stopped, cane charged and even abused by police personnel without any provocation or altercation on number of occasions. Even the circulation staff of one of the newspapers was beaten mercilessly. Meanwhile, the Guild has asked the Governor to adopt a positive approach to end the existing deadlock between Administration and Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti and also ensure that police does not harass people in general and media persons in particular. Warning the state administration to do necessary damage control exercise at the earliest, otherwise the Journalist Guild would also join the ongoing agitation in letter and spirit. Those present in the meting were Rajesh Dutta, Pankaj Sagar, Munish Gupta, Sumit Sharma, Mohinder Sharma, Vikas Sharma, Sunny Sangral and Ashutosh Sharma. |
