| Kashmir separatists, Jammu fundamentalists in tandem: Azad | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 28
Being in ‘Jammu region’ and keeping away from ‘Jammu’, former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has alleged a nexus between the Kashmiri separatist fundamentalists and ‘communal elements’ for fomenting trouble in Jammu region. The former Chief Minister has been touring across the areas of Jammu region for last three days but he has been keeping away from Jammu which is burning in fire of anger on the Amarnath shrine land issue. When Azad was today on his way to his constituency of Doda, his cavalcade was greeted by black badges and manners by the members of minority community at Seri Bazaar. Later he reached his home village of Khalleni where he addressed a public meeting. Addressing the public meeting, Azad said, "I am trying to find out as I have come to know that the fundamentalists of Kashmir and the fundamentalists of Jammu had a meeting. They chalked out a plan as to what each group would do in Jammu and Kashmir so that one group benefits in Jammu and the other in Kashmir. These fundamentalists get together for their advantage because their main aim is to uproot socialism, development and secularism," Azad said. Azad asserted that he would not leave the state politics and go to Delhi till he gets two-third majority for the Congress party in the ensuing assembly elections and accomplishes his unfinished agenda of bringing lasting peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir. Azad was addressing a public meeting at Khalleni near here. He said that rumours are being floated by PDP and NC that he was leaving the state politics and returning to centre. He said he would not oblige them by providing a political vacuum during the forthcoming assembly elections. He said by spreading such rumours the leaders of these parties are only trying to live in a make believe world which would not ultimately benefit them. The senior Congress leader that his opponents were scared of his popularity and the support of people he is getting 0in view of his achievements and path-breaking initiatives during the past about two and a half years and were thus resorting to disinformation campaign. He said his biggest strength were the people of the state and development registered in all sectors across J&K. This greatest asset of his has un-nerved the opposition parties, he added. Azad called upon the people to remain united and judge the political parties and their leaders on the basis of their performance, saying that "we had enough of emotive and misleading slogans during the past 60 years and now it is the time to deliver". He said that he not only got record funds released from the centre for speedier socio-economic development of all areas of the state, but also made people stakeholders in the process of development. He said this has made the real difference and those areas which were neglected in the past by the previous dispensations in matters of development for political reasons, got their due share. Azad also addressed wayside public meetings at Pranoo, Bhala, Seri, Drudu and Gatha where he was accorded a tumultuous welcome. The entire road stretch from Pul Doda to Bhadarwah was tastefully decorated with arches, banners and buntings. Former ministers, Mr. Jugal Kishore Sharma, Mr. G. M. Saroori and Mr. Abdul Majid Wani also addressed the public meeting. At Bhadarwah, Mr. Azad laid foundation stone of a fruit processing unit in private sector. A number of deputations also met him and apprised about their problems. He assured them to get these redressed at the earliest. |
