Released from prison, Omar Abdullah changes stand on militancy
Dair Aaye Durust Aaye!

EARLY TIMES REPORT

Srinagar, May 12: Former Chief Minister and National Conference, President, Omar Abdullah, who is often termed as a changed man since his release from prison -and now the good news is that he has now seemingly changed his stand on the militancy in Kashmir as well.
Omar Abdullah, who had been at the forefront of seemingly glamorizing militancy after the killing of Hizb commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani has taken a U-turn after the killing of Reyaz Naikoo.
Omar said that Reyaz’s killing shouldn’t be glamorized or be a reason for other youth to pick up guns in Kashmir.
“#RiyazNaikoo’s destiny was decided the moment he picked up the gun & adopted the path of violence & terror. His death must not be used as an excuse by some to put more people in harms way by provoking violence & protests,” Omar tweeted.
But it was the same Omar Abdullah who on the killing of Burhan had a different story to narrate.
“Alas Burhan isn't the 1st to pick up the gun & won't be the last. @JKNC_ has always maintained that a political problem needs pol. Solution,” Omar had tweeted on July 8, in 2016.
That time his beta noire Mehbooba Mufti was the Chief Minister and Omar was often sounding no less than a separatist.
Interestingly after Burhan’s killing his father Dr Abdullah had even defended stone pelting.
In April 2017, the National Conference patriarch Farooq Abdullah had claimed that young men who were on the streets pelting stones, were doing so "for the nation". The young men throwing stones, he added, "were sacrificing their life for the resolution of Kashmir (issue)".
But after their release from prison, both Omar Abdullah and his father Dr Farooq Abdullah are sounding like changed persons.
While the duo has stopped talking about politics, Omar seems to have changed his viewpoint about militancy.
Despite repeated attempts, Omar Abdulalh couldn’t be contacted for comments.
