Electoral rolls process is on

Deputy Chief Electoral Officer reacting to a news item appearing in a section of press regarding inclusion of dead persons in the voter lists of Bandipora district has clarified that as per the instructions of Election Commission of India, a Special Summary Revision of the electoral rolls was conducted in the state with reference to January 1, 2008 as the qualifying date. He said during the Special Summary Revision 2008, in Bandipora district 14,310 new electors were included in the electoral rolls and 7,926 dead deleted from the electoral rolls.
However, he stated that District Election Officers and Electoral Registration Officers of the concerned districts have been given standing instructions to intensively scrutinize the electoral rolls as a part of the continuous updation of electoral rolls.
He further stated that District Election Officer Bandipora has been instructed to verify the particulars mentioned in the news item and take further necessary action as per the J&K Representation of Peoples Act 1957 read with J&K Registration of Electors Rules 1966.
