6 cops in dock for beating civilians

Police authorities today order attachment of six police personnel including a probationary Sub Inspector for allegedly beating civilians last night, here.
Informed sources said that two civilians running steel work shop were beaten by personnel security guards of the SHO Mendhar in a local Dhaba.
The duo reportedly went for dinner in a local Daba and in the meanwhile a group of some police personnel posted with the personnel squad of SHO came out of a police gypsy and enter the Dhaba. They asked the duo to vacate the table as they have to sit there.
The duo Zahir Iqbal Khan son of Muhammad Taj Dumal resident of Naka Manjhari and his cousin Muhammad Fayaz son Muhammad Akbar requested the cops to wait as they (duo) were about to finish their meals on which one of the cop give a strong blow to Zahir on head and injured him critically.
Sources quoting Eye witness said that all the policemen were drunk and start beating with riffle butts to the youths, who were saved by the people and were shifted to Hospital.
Zair was later referred to Government Medical College for treatment as he had critical injury in his head.
The family members later went to police station and lodged a written complaint against the cops who were identified as Ved Parkash, Rakesh Kumar, Barob Dutt, SPO's Manpreet singh and Rakesh Kumar.
In the meanwhile Deputy Commissioner and SP Poonch were already in Mandhar to attend Police Public Darbar and the parents of the injured youth approached the police officer and narrate the whole story. The mother of Zahir whose another brother is also serving in police brought both the injured with witnesses and produced them before the officials.
SP Poonch who gave patent hearing to the complainants ordered immediate attachment of the five cops including two SPO's who were accompanying them to DPL Poonch.
One PSI Mohinder Singh against who a deputation complained before the police authorities during the Darbar was also attached to DPL.
Police station concerned was also asked to register a case in this regard. People thanked the SP and appreciate the steps taken on the spot. (NAK)
