Udhampur | July 29

Amidst violent incidents bandh entered sixth day in Udhampur today on the call given by the Sri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti.
Protesters staged a dharna on Jammu-Srinagar Highway near Jakhani two kilometers away from city and raised anti government slogans violating 144 CRPc already imposed by district administration as precautionary measure . Protesters also attacked more than two dozen vehicles and smashed window panes. Nearly half dozen persons were injured who were later hospitalized.
Hundreds of vehicles remained standard on highway near Bali nallah throughout day as they were not allowed to cross Udhampur to avoid any untoward incident. Meanwhile, with the intervention of police and district administration situation was only diffused late in the evening when protesters agreed upon to lift dharna peacefully. Udhampur Bar also suspended its work for the sixth consecutive day in protest
Meanwhile, Convener of Sangresh Samiti Vikram Slathia and BJP State Youth President Pawan Khjauria said that the bandh call has been extended up to 31 July as per Samiti programme and struggle will go on till the logical end is achieved . Both condemned the police brutalities upon the Samiti leaders and activists at Jammu and threatened that such practices will not be tolerated in future. They also warned the district administration to desist from imposing curfew as it is being misused by some vested interests. They added that people are peacefully protesting for their genuine right and no one can deny them from it.
