| Horticulture development schemes reviewed at Rajouri | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 30
With an object to promote horticulture in Rajouri district in view of excellent agro-climatic conditions suitable for fruit cultivation, Director Horticulture Jammu J L Sharma took a meeting of all the district and block level officers of the district at horticulture complex here today. The progress of Horticulture Technology Mission and other developmental schemes under implementation in Rajouri district were reviewed in the meeting. Sharma also took stock of progress made under current rainy season plantation programme in the district and stressed upon the field officers to complete the plantation work well in time for better results. He strictly directed all the field officers to take all the necessary measures to ensure proper implementation of departmental schemes so that the poor farmers are benefited. He impressed upon the Horticulture Development Officers to adopt work culture and work in their respective jurisdictions with full dedication and devotion for the betterment of farming community. Chief Horticulture Officer Rajouri Bipan Lal Pandita informed that 468 hectare area is being brought under fruit plantation under Technology Mission and district plan schemes during 2008-09 in the district. He further informed that 600 sq. metres area is being brought under Low Cost Ploy Green Houses. The two On-farm Handling Units, eight community water storage/harvesting tanks and two shallow bore wells shall be established under TM in the district during current year. 44 Manual Operated Spray Pumps and five number of Irrigation pumps shall be distributed among the farmers of Rajouri district under TM during 2008-09. More than 57 farmer’s awareness camps shall be organized under TM during current year. Director Horticulture also laid stress upon the officers to organize farmers awareness camps and seminars more frequently to educate the farmers regarding various schemes and programmes of the department and to transfer latest technology to the farmers for the upliftment of fruit industry in the division. Deputation of progressive Orchardists headed by Tilak Raj, Vice President, Stone Fruit Growers Association of India met with Director Horticulture and complained that quality plant material of stone fruits is not available in plenty in Rajouri and other districts of Jammu division. Director Horticulture assured the deputation that every possible help shall be extended by the department for providing quality plant material of stone fruits like Peach, Plum, Apricot in the region for which the agro-climatic conditions are very conducive. While responding to queries raised by Vice President of Stone Fruit Growers Association, Director Horticulture informed that efforts are being made to revise the pattern for providing incentives for establishment of orchards and other components of Technology Mission Programme. |
