| Tarigami miffed over brimming LoC | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | July 30
Concerned over recent ceasefire violations across the Line of Control (LoC), CPI (M)'s State unit today warned that further vitiation of the atmosphere along the borders would derail the peace process between India and Pakistan. "I appeal to the leaderships in both India and Pakistan not to let the atmosphere be vitiated any more as it is bound to derail the peace process between the two countries", CPI(M) state secretary M Y Tarigami said. Pakistani forces today opened fresh unprovoked firing at Indian positions along the LoC in Northern Kashmir, a day after army commanders of the two sides met to ease tension following a 16-hour exchange of fire in which an Indian soldier was killed. Terming the ceasefire violations most unfortunate, the CPI (M) leader said, "The violations, I am afraid, can exacerbate the ongoing impasse over Jammu and Kashmir and add to further tensions along the sensitive, fragile LoC." Appealing to both Indian and Pakistani authorities to ensure that clauses of the ceasefire are followed and peace prevails along the borders, Tarigami said ceasefire violations will only complicate the Kashmir issue with disastrous implications for the entire region. |
