| Lay roads in time: Vohra tells Engineers | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | July 30
Governor, N. N. Vohra has asked the agencies implementing road projects in J&K under central sector to complete these within the stipulated time frame. Reviewing the pace of progress of road projects in the State being executed by Border Roads Organization (BRO), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Sampark and Himank at meeting here today, Vohra asked the concerned Chief Engineers to submit progress reports of the ongoing projects on fortnightly basis. He said that these reports should highlight the bottlenecks, if any, coming in the way of execution of the projects with regard to acquisition of land, release of funds and clearances wherever needed. He asked Secretary R&B to convene meetings with the concerned Deputy Commissioners to examine the impediments hampering the execution of roads under their jurisdiction and take immediate measures for removing them. Vohra stressed on preparation of detailed project reports of the roads likely to be awarded under central sector so that work could be started well in time. He said that better up keep of roads was imperative for ensuring easy and least time consuming journey. Chief Engineers of Beacon, NHAI and Sampark Brig. A. K. Bhutani, M. K. Jain and Brig. U. S. Dadu gave power point presentation of the ongoing road projects in the State being executed by these agencies. The meeting was informed that work on 761 km eleven road projects costing Rs. 1405 crore are going on in full swing and are expected to be completed by March 2011 by BRO while as under Sampark 4-laning of 17.20 kms of NH-1A and double laning of 10 roads and construction of 27 roads is going on in the State. Rs. 591.47 crore 5-road projects of 113 kms, 4-bridges and one fly-over are under execution in the state by NHAI and are likely to be completed by next year. 13 new road projects in the state are also likely to be awarded for execution by NHAI, the meeting was told. Principal Secretary to Governor B. B. Vyas, Secretary R&B Shalendra Kumar and Chief Engineers of R&B, Kashmir, Jammu, PMGSY also participated in the meeting. |
