| Mahajan says Congress Ministers ate power funds | | PDP’s take on Jammu blackouts | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 30
Expressing its grave concern over unprecedented power crises in Jammu province, the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today shifted all blames on Congress for prevailing power crises in this region. In a statement issued here today, vice president of the party Ved Mahajan, MLC said that after formation of coalition regime in Jammu and Kashmir in 2002, Power Ministry remained with Congress and its Ministers pocketed all funds released by the Centre from time to time. "Congress leaders who were allotted Power portfolio had brazenly looted funds which were actually meant for creating infrastructure for electricity", he said, adding, "Centre government had released crores and crores of rupees for improving power sector in Jammu region". "Instead of utilizing these funds, Congress Ministers pocketed the money and schemes and plans remained only on papers", he alleged. He expressed surprise that authorities were very much aware that transformer installed at Gladni was vital to ensure supply in whole Jammu region but authorities have not taken any step to install a stand by transformer to ensure supply in case of any technical snag. He expressed surprise that despite pumping of huge funds, the standby transformer was lying defunct for the last so many years. Contesting claims for former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad of accelerating development in the State, Mahajan statements of Azad were bundle of lies. "Condition of Power- which is one of the important sector, negates claims of the former Chief Minister", he said, adding, "former Chief Minister, who failed to create infrastructure in power, is talking about accelerating developmental activities". Calling upon people of Jammu to teach Congress a lesson for prevailing power crises, Mahajan said that for about two years Ghulam Nabi Azad had himself retained power portfolio and appointed only a MoS for Power. Charging Congress Ministers with pocketing funds meant to improve infrastructure in power sector, PDP leaders said that centrally sponsored schemes and programmes were implemented only on papers. |
