| Clever Omar meets PM, talks Jammu | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | July 30
As Congress and Peoples Democratic Party shy away from the prevailing situation in Jammu, the National Conference president Omar Abdullah today made a timely yet cleverly move by meeting the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to discuss the situation. Omar Abdullah, it may be mentioned here, is facing deep public criticism in Jammu for allegedly making a provocative statement in the Parliament on which Kuldeep Kumar felt reportedly enraged and took the extreme step of offering his life. Ever since, main protests and demonstrations in Jammu have been directed against Omar who have all along chosen to remain silent on the issue. However, today Omar made a cleverly move when he called on the Prime Minister to indicate that he is concerned on the Jammu situation. An NC spokesman said Omar Abdullah met Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister in New Delhi today and discussed with him the political situation prevailing in Jammu & Kashmir state particularly in Jammu region. He urged the Prime Minister that the Union Government should intervene in the matter and take emergent steps to defuse the tension and restore peace and normalcy in Jammu through peaceful measures. He expressed concern that the secular fabric of the state should not be allowed to be disturbed and communal harmony should be maintained at all cost. He also urged the Prime Minister to take measures to isolate the divisive forces who have a nefarious dangerous design to disintegrate the state. Omar Abdullah also urged the Prime Minister to arrange for air transport for the under repair Gladeni Power Transformer to mitigate the suffering caused to the people of Jammu, Poonch and Rajouri due to the acute power and water shortage. The Prime Minister appreciated the concern of Omar Abdullah and assured him that the Union Government will take all possible measures to address the issues raised by him. |
