| Bishnah people aghast on Shailendra’s attachment | | | Pankaj Sagar Jammu | July 31
Even as the Governor’s move of ordering a judicial probe to inquire the allegation of disrespect to martyr Kuldeep Kumar has been widely hailed by all sections of society but attachment of Shailinder Singh, Superintendent of Police Bishnah, has not gone well with people. Recently, Governor ordered a judicial probe into the cremation of mortal remains of Kuldeep Kumar Dogra and also ordered transfer of SSP Jammu Alok Kumar and attachment of SP Bishnah Shailendra Singh. The judicial probe into the incident was a welcome move but the transfer and attachment of the police officials except one i.e. DySP M L Kaith, who reportedly applied brutal force while snatching the body of Kuldeep Kumar, is not being digested well by a section of public, as they believe that they were doing well at their respective levels. The common public perception say that the decision to snatch Kuldeep Verma's body and cremate it in the wee hours was taken by the top brass of police and not by the SSP or SP then why only they were made the scapegoats and not the Director General and Inspector General. People are witness to the fact that even the stringent police action on the protesting Jammuites was ordered by the top brass of police and administration and the lower rung officer had little at their control. After witnessing turmoil of five-days in the aftermath of strong usage of police force, the Governor ordered judicial probe, transfer and attachment in a bid to calm down the situation. In the process, he made the two police officers to leave the field and asked the police to exercise maximum restrain while dealing with people. A cross section of people in Bishnah say that SP Shailendra Singh, who was posted as SP Headquarters and Incharge Bishnah only few days before the incident, was doing well to control the situation in his area with the active involvement of masses. Soon after the Kuldeep Verma's cremation, when the tension was at peak in Bishnah, he exhibited exemplary skills to calm down the anger of people. Reportedly, a steep fall was noticed in violence level after his initiative of holding police-public meetings and people were willing to carry out protests but in peaceful manner but, then came the order of his attachment from none other than Governor N N Vohra. |
