Indus water treaty should be canceled: Vikrant Kapoor
6/2/2020 11:23:29 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 2: Hindustan Shiv Sena President Vikrant Kapoor urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to cancel the Indus Water Treaty immediately. He said that the government is adding salt to the wounds of the people of Jammu by installing 80,000 smart electric meters in Jammu whereas only 35,000 meters will be installed in Kashmir.
Kapoor said that the power generated in J&K should be supplied to the people of Jammu and Kashmir only. He also demanded the cancellation of the Indus Water Treaty between the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and President Mohammad Ayub Khan of Pakistan in the year 1960 so that Jammu and Kashmir could use the water of its rivers.
He said that even after repealing Article 370, the Jammu region is being neglected in development and allied areas and the government seems to be completely Kashmir-centric. He also questioned the indifferent attitude of the Jammu and Kashmir Electricity Development Department for not extending the JKPDD amnesty scheme for electricity consumers.
