Thinning Khaki from streets, Khoda saves situation

Jammu | July 31

Even though two Police officers had to removed from their positions to quell the protests following alleged barbaric acts of their colleagues but the leadership of Jammu and Kashmir Police deserves accolades for taking timely measures to cease the growing dissent against the men on Khaki.
In last four days of agitation, it could have turned into a mob versus Police battle if the DGO had not taken the timely action of ordering restraint. Since Monday the protests are keeping their tempo but there is no visible anger. This could happen only when the DGP thinned down presence of cops from the volatile streets where men in Khaki were seen as the hate symbol, particularly after the reign of aggression unleashed by then Sub Divisional Police Officer ML Kaith.
Many are of the opinion that but for timely action of Khoda, the situation could have taken a violent turn as it was apparently into a protracted battle between the enraged agitators and the cops. Initial few days of protests were directly focused against the Police when administration kept the opinion that the use of force might bring down the level of protests.
Sources say that when the situation further escalated, the DGP intervened and prevailed on the administration to take a decision on keeping the strength of cops on streets to a lowest minimum. Ever since the presence of cops has been reduced, the protests are though still going on but they are largely peaceful.
