Jammu | Aug 1

Alleging police atrocities on women by the police during the ongoing agitation over Amarnath land issue, two women MPs of the BJP today said the party will approach the NHRC and NWC to demand adequate compensation for those injured during police action.
"We will meet the chiefs of these organisations and bring to their notice the unruly behaviour of police and other security forces towards women during their peaceful protest in Jammu during last several weeks in connection with Amarnath land issue," Kiran Maheswari and Sangeeta Singh Dev told reportes here.
"Besides adequate compensation for the injured women, the party would also demand punishment for police officials involved in the incidents," Maheshwari, also the president of BJP Mahila Morcha, said.
She said the issue would also be raised in the monsoon session of Parliament. "We will also persuade the women parliamentarians to visit Jammu and see for themselves the prevailing situation," Maheshwari said.
She also criticised the state administration for not deploying women police to deal with women agitators.
"Women are coming out on the streets because of anger against those who have hurt the religious sentiments by revoking the Amarnath land tranfer order," she said.
The two MPs earlier visited Muthi and met women agitators.
On their meeting with PDP president Mehbooba Mufti at the airport here this afternoon, they alleged, "When we brought the matter of police high-handedness on women in Jammu, she responded by saying they (women) did wrong." Dev said, "Mufti, being a woman herself, should not have brushed aside the matter."
