| NC to defeat fissiparous tendencies, senseless violence in Jammu | | Rather appeals patriotic people to settle issues amicably | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Aug 1
Reaffirming its resolve to fight and defeat the fissiparous tendencies and senseless violence, the National Conference chief spokesman A R Rather said that at this critical juncture National Conference can not remain a silent spectator to the occurrences of ill-will and hatred by some anti-social elements in Jammu and will do its utmost to strengthen the bonds of communal accord and peaceful co-existence. In a statement issued to the press today he said that "Jammu and Kashmir National Conference expresses it deep sense of anguish and concern at the unfortunate happenings taking place in Jammu and various other places. Though protests and peaceful demonstrations are an integral part of democratic process, but when these are allowed to degenerate into communal fratricide and sectarian confrontation, these can scuttle the sacred edifice of democracy itself. Jammu has to its credit their heart-warming record of the nineties of last century, when it proved to be a bastion of peace, communal harmony and compassion. Rather in his statement said that in this back drop, it is rather distressing that some recent developments have been allowed to take communal trappings. Those who seem to be taking recourse to such retrograde steps are doing a great disservice to the fair name of Jammu and its peace loving, tolerant people. The situation becomes more painful when minority groups living there feel unsafe and threatened. The talk of economic blockade of Kashmir valley makes the scenario even darker, he said, adding that any person with a national vision or patriotic consideration can imagine the dangerous ramifications of such occurrences for the fragile internal peace within the state as well as its disastrous potential for the whole country. Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, in the interest of people of the State and broader interests of the Nation, appeals to all sane and patriotic people to settle the issues amicably and put an end to this conflict which can, God forbid, engulf the whole country, the statement added. ‘Our glorious record is a testimony that it has stood like a rock to uphold the banner of Hindu-Muslim-Sikh unity and to defeat the forces of hate and violence’, he said and added that ‘we had to bear the loss of thousands of our leaders and workers in the nineties of the last century, who were martyred for championing the cause of communal harmony and social tranquility. The statement further said that at this critical juncture National Conference can not remain a silent spectator to the occurrences of ill-will and hatred by some anti-social elements in Jammu and will do its utmost to strengthen the bonds of communal accord and peaceful co-existence. |
