| In Vohra’s backyard, Police Post set ablaze | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 1
In an apparent sign of collapsing law and order situation hundreds of protestors set on fire a Police Post just few hundred meters away from the Raj Bhawan where Governor NN Vohra was holding talks with the senior citizens and political leaders to defuse the tension. Several hundred people defied curfew here Friday afternoon and marched toward the Raj Bhavan to protest the arrival of "Kashmiri leaders" for talks on the Amarnath land row. Curfew was imposed in entire Jammu today as massive rallies continued in many parts of the district today over the Amarnath land row but protesters defied the restrictions and torched a police post close to the governor's residence and fought a pitched battle with the police. The mob clashed with the police. While the agitators showered stones, the police resorted to baton charge, teargassing and also opened fire in the air to disperse the agitators. The agitators torched the police post in Panjtirthi area, close to the Raj Bhavan after its attempts to storm into the governor's residence were foiled by the police and paramilitary forces. |
