Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has expressed his profound grief on the e sad demise Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet veteran leader of the CPI(M). Sayeed described Surjeet as a great patriot, a prominent national politician and his death as big loss to the nation. Sayeed in his condolence message has said that Surjeet was a very hard working person who built his party and fought against divisive communal forces. "He had a life-long association with the peasant movement. He led the anti-betterment levy struggle of the farmers in Punjab in 1959 which depicted his love and care for this neglected community," Sayeed said in his condolence message. The PDP Patron added that Surjeet's was a life-long fight against communalism and he was one of the first leaders who recognized the threat posed by the rise of the communal forces to the secular principle of the Indian State. "He played a crucial role in 1989, 1996 and 2004 in creating the political formations and the setting up of governments which excluded the communal forces," Sayeed has observed further. |
