| BJP criticises Centre for using force to control bandh | | | New Delhi | Aug 2
With the Jammu bandh entering twelfth consecutive day today over Amarnath land transfer issue, BJP today alleged that the Centre was trying to find a solution through military might rather than initiating a dialogue with the agitators. "It seems the Centre only understands the voices of the valley and not of the Jammu region. It is trying to find a solution through force and is not initiating a dialogue," party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said here. Army was called in to control situation in Jammu today amid fresh tensions. "This can only further deteriorate the situation. We demand that the government should revoke the cancellation of land allotment," he added. The government's behaviour is communal, Javadekar said when asked if BJP was flaring-up communal tension in the region. Violent protests over the Amarnath land transfer row continued today even as Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra announced yesterday that the responsibility of running the annual yatra will be handed back to the shrine board. Two protesters were killed and eight injured as police opened firing to quell a mob in Samba district yesterday. |
