Action Plan of Rs. 31.19 lakh approved for Horticulture TM

District Development Commissioner, Reasi, Mr. Sanjeev Verma approved the Action Plan 2008-09 as per the ceiling received to the tune of Rs. 27.69 lakh for Horticulture Technology Mission (MM-II) and Rs. 3.5 lakh under Prime Minister Reconstruction Plan for Integrated Development of Horticulture under Technology Mission for the Reasi district officers meeting held in his office chamber last evening.
The Chief Horticulture Officer, Reasi placed the formulated plan before the District Level Coordination Committee for necessary discussion and approval by the DDC. Threadbare discussions were held with regard to implementation of various schemes under Technology Mission for the Integrated Development of Horticulture in all the four blocks which include Reasi, Pouni, Arnas and Mahore of the Reasi district.
The Reasi district has varied Agro-climatic conditions ranging from sub-tropical, temperature and sub-temperature for cultivation of different verities of fruits, parts of Reasi, Pouni and Arnas block fall under sub-tropical zone and are most suitable for cultivation of Mango, Citrus, bar and graphs. Similarly higher reaches of Reasi, Pouni, Arnas and Mahore has temperature climate and are suitable for growing of walnut, apple and other temperate fruit crops.
Presently an area of about 6000 hectare is under fruit cultivation in the Reasi district which includes 2039 hectares under dry fruits and 3961 hectares under fresh fruits with the production of 5042 Metric Tonnes which include 2866 MT under Fresh and 2176 MT under Dry.
It was further revealed in the meeting that as per preliminary estimates about 0.17 lakh hectares of land is available for further expansion under Horticulture in the district besides about one lakh wild/ inferior fruit plants of kainth and olive are available for top working with improved cultivars. During the year 2007-08 an area of 230 hectares was brought under new plantation by planting 28700 Nos of fruit plants under Technology Mission in Reasi district involving financial achievements of 25.880 lakh and the total expenditure on all components under the scheme were 31.982 lakh. About 435 hectares have been brought under new fruit plantation of different cultivars in which 78189 fruit plants were planted under different schemes.
Mr. Verma stressed upon the officers concerned to implement the various schemes under the Technology Mission for all round development of the concerned areas on priority so that the socio-economic conditions of the general masses be improved at their door steps. Mr. Verma exhorted for necessary awareness in the rural areas by holding awareness camps for obtaining maximum benefits under the various schemes.Among other senior officers from Animal Husbandry, Agriculture, Horticulture, RDD and Assistant Director Planning were present in the meeting.
