The ongoing agitation on the Shri Amarnath Shrine land issue today took a significant political turn as top Congress leaders from Jammu offered their to Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti and called for restoration of the controversial piece of forest land. While this development is seen as a respect to the majority public sentiments at the same time it is also a blow for the Congress which has been it receiving end of the public ire for the controversial decision. At least three legislators including Raman Bhalla, Yogesh Sawhney and Sham Lal Sharma and another senior leader and Corporator Bansi Lal Gupta have urged the Governor in their separate statements to restore the forest land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. They said that this decision should be taken forthwith to avoid further unrest in the region. The Congress MLA Sham Lal Sharma went stepped ahead as he visited the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti and offered his support for the cause. Sharma said that he is with the Samiti in its ongoing agitation. Another senior Congress leader and Gandhi Nagar Corporator Bansi Lal Gupta appealed to the Governor NN Vohra to address the dominant public sentiment in Jammu region and take a decision at an earliest to avoid situation taking ugly turn. he said that the Governor should exercise his wide ranging administrative experience to satisfy the public aspirations as situation in Jammu has already gone out of control. Meanwhile, former minister and Gandhi Nagar MLA Raman Bhalla alleged Vohra had failed to instil confidence among the people and that the situation had deteriorated under his rule. Bhalla was the first prominent Congress leader to have voiced a demand for Vohra's recall, which is on top of the agenda of the Bharatiya Janta Party and Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti, spearheading the Jammu agitation for the restoration of the land. Meanwhile, National Conference leader Shamsher Singh, who is also a corporator in Jammu Municipal Corporation, has quit the party and declared his support for Jammu agitation. |
