| Budha Amarnath Yatra halted, Admn denies | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 2
First time ever in the history the holy Budha Amarnath pilgrimage to Poonch had to be cancelled by the administration leaving thousands of Hindus deeply enraged. However, a spokesman of Jammu district administration has clarified that no ban or restriction has been imposed on Shri Budha Amarnathji yatra. Reacting to a report circulated today, the spokesman said that in fact the administration has made adequate arrangements for the pilgrims. For the first time, arrangements for the pilgrims have been made in the Yatri Bhawan and registration fee has also been waived off. He said there could be some inconvenience to the pilgrims due to the prevailing disturbed conditions in Jammu, he added. Despite all necessary arrangement and discussions with the organizing groups the administration puff off the pilgrimage to Poonch which had to begin this afternoon. A decision to this effect had to be taken in view of the highly volatile situation prevailing in Jammu and other parts of the region. Firebrand Hindu leader Sadhvi Ratambhara who had to launch the yatra after addressing a rally at Parade Ground today was not allowed to enter Jammu and she was held up at the airport immediately after her arrival. The government has disallowed Hindu leader Sadhvi Ritambhara from entering this city and holding a public rally here Saturday afternoon, amid renewed violence over the Amarnath land row that left two people dead in this district Friday, forcing the authorities to call out the Army. Ritambhara, a firebrand Hindu leader, was to address a public meeting in the afternoon in connection with the Amarnath land row. The order barring Ritambhara's entry into the city was issued by district authorities under section 144 of the CrPC that disallows assembly of four or more people. A heavy contingent of Jammu and Kashmir Police was already waiting at the Airport since this morning when the Sadhvi arrived. She was immediately taken into custody and later flew back to New Delhi in another flight. Several Hindu organizations have taken strong exception to cancellation of the Budha Amarnath Yatra and debarring Sadhvi Ritambhara from entering Jammu. VHP leader Dr Rama Kant Dubey said that the government has once again played with sentiments of the Hindus and it will have to suffer for the same. He said that more than 20,000 youth from 20 states across the country had to join the Budha Amarnath Yatra from Jammu which the administration has upset. He warned of a countrywide backlash against cancellation of Budha Amarnath pilgrimage. |
