| B’Brahmna in perpetual darkness | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Aug 2
Much to the pleasure of power starved inhabitants of Jammu City and adjoining areas, the government today informed “near arrival” of some parts of Gladni Grid transformer but at the same time there was not even a word of regret about the prevailing darkness in Baribrahmna and its adjoining areas. The loss at Gladni Grid station was immediately noticed and reported for being in the Capital City, but people of Bari Brahmna have been facing worst power crisis for last two days and administration is yet to react to the situation. It is learnt that a powerful 132/11 (31.5 MVA) KV transformer was gutted two days back in a mysterious fire leaving people grappling in the dark. Entire Bari Brahmna Industrial Estate, Bari Brahmna town and its peripheral areas, other villages including Kalu Chak, Jakh, Sarore and Tarore were being fed by this transformer which was no less powerful than the one which gutted at Gladni last month. Local people of the area have repeated pleas before the concerned department but alternative arrangements were yet to be made till late this evening. Many people have alleged foul play and dereliction of duty at part of the officers of Power Development Department. The concerned officer of the area, Executive Engineer VK Suri feigned ignorance about the issue. The local suffering people wondered that a senior engineer at the Gladni Grid station was immediately suspended after the fire incident and why the incharge of Bari Brahmna area has been spared. Meanwhile, an official spokesman informed here this evening that three trucks carrying transformer oil are likely to reach Jammu by late this evening from Patna. These trucks were held up at Kootah Morh since Thursday due to the disturbances on the highway. The transformer oil is required for Gladni Grid Station. According to the Development Commissioner Power, Mr. R. K. Seli, two trucks and two trailers carrying transformer radiator and other accessories are reaching Lakhanpur tomorrow. The low-bed trailer carrying main transformer has crossed Ambala today. |
