Satwant Kaur Dogra, a prominent Leader from Samba & member of the Sangharsh Samiti, Samba today addressed a series of meetings in the Border villages of Samba. The meetings were attended by thousands of people from all walks of life from various villages of Border. Addressing the gatherings at Villages Rahian, Mawa, Bain, Kungwala & Sadoh, she said that government is trying to sabotage the present agitation by giving it a communal color and appealed the people to maintain communal Harmony. She said people of samba are peace loving & peaceful agitation is their fundamental & democratic right. She strongly condemned the indiscriminate firing by the police on peaceful demonstrators at Samba resulting in death of two youths & injuring dozens of protestors.
She condemned the Governor Vohra for highly repressive step in handing over Samba & Jammu City to Army & by making repeated announcements of shoot at sight of those people who come out of their houses. She said army’s role is to fight against the enemies of the country and not against the nationalist & patriotic people of Samba who are fighting for the upholding the banner of Indian Nationalism in J&K. The Governor’s action is a reminder of the repression let loose by the British Raj against the freedom fighters before 1947.
She strongly demanded that Governor should quit immediately as he has failed to win the confidence of people of all faiths of Jammu Province. Terming Governor’s decision on Amarnath Shrine Board land as hasty, communal biased, politically immature, morally irresponsible, she said that previous Government has taken the decision of canceling the land allotted to SASB by succumbing under the pressure from kashmiri leaders, fundamentalists, Anti- India forces & secessionist people of Kashmir Valley. She said the fight is not between different communities or faiths but the fight is against discrimination between Kashmir & Jammu. She said people of Jammu Province from all faiths have united for the first time in the last 60 years and will continue agitating till 800 kanals of land is restored to the Shrine Board.
While criticizing the government, she alleged that administration has decided to curve the ongoing agitation by imposing curfew, lathi charge, firing and arrests of people and by trying to divide people. She appealed people to remain united and not believe on the rumors of the agents of Government. She pledged support to protesting media persons sitting on Dharna in Jammu against their restricted movement, for discharging their professional duties and condemned the brutal action of administration against media.
Satwant Kaur Dogra also condemned & deplored the insensibilities & indifferent shown by former CM Farooq Abdulla & PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti towards the agitation of Jammuites at the All Party meeting convened by the Governor. She said people don’t need sermons & certificates from those whose utterances & actions of the past & of the present wear testimony to their dual personality, their sympathies with forces inimical to Indian State. She reminded these two leaders that Jammuites have never protested the subsidies to HAJ pilgrims or any facility given to the boards of other faiths in J&K, showing their secular character as against the communal character shown by these fundamentalists by opposing the SASB Land transfer. Others who spoke on occasion were Pt. Girdhari Lal, Sat Kaur, Madan Chowdhary, Ramesh Singh.
