Sheetal Nanda launches documentary on success story of PMAR-G

JAMMU, June 17: Secretary Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RD&PR), Sheetal Nanda, today launched a documentary on success story of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) of Panchayat Jeora in Block Suchetgarh of Jammu district.
Director Rural Development Department, Jammu, Sudershan Kumar, was also present on the occasion.
Secretary said that the PMAY-G has focused on deprived household and the poorest of the poor who live in kaccha houses. The success of rural housing programme not only provides a home to the poor but also generate employment for them up to 90/95 days work under MGNREGA. Also, these PMAY homes are provided with electricity connection under Saubhagya programme and LPG connection under Ujjwala programme besides toilets under Swachh Bharat Mission, she added. She said that it is a life changing intervention for the poor.
Pertinently, the flagship Rural Housing Programme started with IAY in January 1996 and was re-structured into Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin w.e.f 1st April 2016 with the Government’s commitment to provide “Housing for All” by 2022.
Secretary said that the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, J&K has achieved success towards materializing the dream of these hopeless people of constructing their pacca houses into reality only with the support and guidance of the central Government. The transformed profile of Halqa Panchayat Jeora of Block Suchetgarh situated on the Zero line of the International Border is an exemplary achievement under PMAY, she added. The department provided a big relief to these villagers through different schemes being implemented there. The first target in this regard was to construct 73 houses under PMAY which has been successfully achieved. Besides, 70 household latrines and two community bunkers have also been constructed to facilitate these border dwellers in case of any emergency, she added.
Director RDD informed that these people living along the Indo Pak border spend their lives under constant threat of firing from across the border and often suffers loss to their property and lives. So, the flagship programme PMAY of Center government has proved to be a boon for these hapless people, he added.
Joint Director RDD, Mohammad Anwar Bandy; ACD, Jammu, Amit Burmani; Block Development Officer Suchetgarh, Mohinder Singh; Exeutive Engineer, Sabhir Ahmed Choudhry; Sarpanch Panchayat Jeora, Liaqat Ali and other concerned officers were present on the occasion.
