Recall governor and lift curfew in Jammu province: BJP
8/4/2008 9:18:21 PM

Jammu | Aug 4

The state unit of Bhartiya Janta Party on Monday demanded that curfew should be lifted from all areas of Jammu and Governor N N Vohra be recalled to mitigate the ongoing violence in the province.
The authorities should lift the curfew from all the towns of Jammu province and army should be sent to Kashmir valley to deal with the anti-national elements there as the people of Jammu are fighting for the national cause, pradesh BJP vice president and spokesman Hari Om told reporters here.
Reiterating the party's demand for recall of the state governor, Om said it would help in easing the situation in entire province.
Jammu is burning for more than a month now as protesters are demanding for cancellation of revoked government order on the transfer of 39.88 hectares of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).
Praising the people of Jammu for sustaining the ongoing Amarnath agitation by their active participation, Om said that it has shaken the leadership of Kashmir and awakened New Delhi including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. They (people of Jammu) also deserve credit for maintaining communal harmony and brotherhood in the sensitive province, he said.
"The nation today realises that the sentiments of crores of Hindus all over the country and abroad have been hurt by the decision taken by erstwhile Congress-led government in connivance with the governor on Amarnath land transfer issue," the BJP spokesman said.
The BJP leader expressed hope that the Congress leadership at national level would take such steps which would satisfy the aspirations of the people of Jammu.
It appears that Vohra has turned Musharraf overnight and is adopting the same tactics which the Pakistani general had been using to suppress the people, he added.
