Finding no labourers, women in Panchayat Kawar mould bricks on their own

JAMMU, June 18: The proverb “God helps those who help themselves”, fits aptly for the poor women folks of village Kawar in Block Nagsini of Kishtwar District where the local women after finding no labourers have taken the initiative of moulding bricks for construction of their houses sanctioned for them under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Grameen (PMAYG- Housing for all).
As per the details available with Early Times, the women with the help of the locals decided to not only help to build their own homes, but also help the others by providing them the bricks for construction of house under PMAYG.
Due to lockdown all the non-local labourers have returned to their homes and taking challenge, the women of the village joins hands and started preparing the bricks on their own. All this will help them to reduce the cost and same could be used to further uplift the quality of the work.
Speaking to Early Times, BDO Nagsini told the “Early Times”, that during the spot visit by Rural Development Department, in panchayat Kawar, it was found that the ladies of the panchayat were moulding bricks for the construction of PMAY houses.
Speaking to Early Times, Champa Devi said that due to lockdown all the labourers have returned to their homes adding that after finding no one— they decided to mould and prepare the bricks on their own.
She said that soon other women also joined and they started preparing the bricks for others as well since many villagers had a house sanctioned under PMAYG.
Sarpanch Kwar Zeena Begum told the Early Times that these women under Atmanirbhar Bharat had decided tohelp themselves at the time when whole country is facing lockdown.
“These poor women had decided to take the initiative into their own hands and all this will definitely strengthened these women economically,” said Zeena Begum adding that these women are getting full support from the locals.
