| Consumer court awards Rs 2.10 lakh compensation to farmers | | | Srinagar, Sept 07 : In a significant decision the divisional consumer forum Srinagar today granted rupees two lakh compensation to be paid by agriculture department to a group of farmers, for supplying poor quality of paddy seeds. A group of fifteen farmers from Panigam, Rawata pora. Allesa and Zulreshi had filed a complaint against agriculture department in the consumer forum for supplying poor quality seed, which fails to gestate to gain results into failure of peasant’s crop. The divisional consumer forum comprised of session judge Rashid Ahmad Lone besides its members M L Kirmani and Amina Farooqui granted the compensation to the complainants. The divisional forum after hearing the group of farmers and the officers of agriculture department observed that department has failed to provide the technical guidance to farmers, which proves deficiency of services. The forum further observed that since the farmers have suffered a loss due to negligence of the department, why they should not be given due compensation besides quality awards for crop. Rupees 3000 was also given as compensation for causing mental agony to the complainant. |
