| People defy curfew take out huge rallies | | | Early Times Reporter Udhampur | Aug 5
Despite imposition of curfew and deployment of Army, the people marched in huge rallies in most parts of city defying curfew restrictions and shouting slogans including ‘Bum Bum Bhole’, ‘Indian Army Zindabad’, ‘NN Vohra Hai Hai’ and ‘in support of the agitation spearheaded by Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS) . Reports said a large number of people which mostly include women from Chabutra Bazar took out protest rally which after passing through various bazars culminated at Chabutra. The protestors were demanding restoration of land to the Shrine Board, besides a judicial probe into Samba and Akhnoor firing incident which took place today. People in large numbers irked from Akhnoor and Samba incidents took out rally from Jial road in Shiv Nager and tried to block national highway but timely intervention of Army and police did not allow them to do so. Meanwhile similar protest rallies were also held in Adarsh Colony, Sallian Talab and Barrian localities of the town where people came out of their houses in the afternoon defying curfew and started marching towards the national highway to block movement of the highway raising religious and anti-Government slogans. |
